Easton Wood now a VU Alumnus
Easton Wood is now a university graduate, capping off a fairy tale year captaining the Western Bulldogs to an AFL Grand Final victory that was 62 years in the making.
He received his Bachelor of Sport Science degree from Victoria University on Thursday 15 December along with hundreds of other VU graduates at the picturesque Flemington Racecourse Grandstand.
World premiere of Paws for Pressure
In an effort to lower stress levels VU librarian Garry Potter organised for the Delta Society to bring in therapy dogs to help students find a way to clear their heads. The story caught the attention of media around the country. The result is Paws for Pressure, a short film made in collaboration with Plgrm that not only captures lots of wagging tails, but the difficulties some students face with anxiety.
Reunion Day blog recap
On 3 December, VU welcomed members from across the VU family tree to our Footscray Park Campus for a very special reunion, the final chapter in our centenary celebrations, and celebrate with the extended VU family. From students who graduated more than 50 years ago, to students who will be graduating in decades to come, a diverse range of members of the VU family gathered in Footscray to reminisce and catch up with old friends.

2016 AULLA Conference
Victoria University will host the 2016 Australasian Universities Languages & Literature Association Conference from 7 to 9 December at VU’s Footscray Nicholson Campus.
The theme for this year’s conference is Love and the Word. The conference will explore how does affection affect words? What do people mean by ‘love’ and its counterparts in the world’s languages? Or perhaps: how does it ‘do’ those meanings?

Celebrating partnerships with the legal profession
The College of Law and Justice hosted an event on 10 November to recognise the contribution of the legal profession and Victoria University staff in enhancing the student experience in 2016.
Muslim Leaders graduate from legal training
Twenty Muslim women and 10 Imams involved in Australia’s first faith-based legal training program at VU’s Sir Zelman Cowen Centre graduated last week at a ceremony hosted by the Governor of Victoria.
Top sport students recognised at VU Sport Awards
VU celebrated the achievements of past and present students at the annual VU Sports Awards on 17 November.
Paralympian shotput champion Todd Hodgetts was named top Male Athlete of the Year. Todd is currently studying a Diploma of Remedial Massage at VU. Snowboard champion and double-degree sport and psychology student Lauren Staveley was named Female Athlete of the Year.

Kindred Studios has been home to our VU Music students since 2010 and features a range of studios and co-working spaces. It also features a bar, yoga classes and TV studio.

VU researchers receive close to $1million in ARC grants
Professor Gary Foley of VU’s Moondani Balluk Unit will lead a team of renowned Indigenous researchers in a $475,000 project to create an online archive of records about Aboriginal self-determination, the land rights’ movement and Aboriginal community survival programs.
A discovery grant worth $239,000 was awarded to a project that will provide ways to recover valuable products from current waste water. Professor Mikel Duke of VU’s Institute of Sustainability and Innovation is Chief Investigator of this project which will be conducted in partnership with Singapore’s Nanyang Technical University.
